Currently there is only one way to use GSM/GPRS cards for a mobile computer, the one that asks the user to manually change the GSM/GPRS card in order to achieve the cheapest connection. The invention should be able to discover and activate the best connection available.

Introduction

    Usually a mobile computer has a GSM/GPRS card used to connect to the internet. Actually to use GSM/GPRS card, an user could have, at least, a PCMCIA, an embedded hardware devices or an external phone.

    The GSM/GPRS cards has different connection price, and it depends on the specific contract established with the GSM/GPRS provider. The price could be based on the day of the week and/or the hours within the dial is done and/or the number called.

    Currently the end user, that have more than one card, manually switch the GSM/GPRS card in use to activate the best connection.

    Our solution consist on software utility and hardware device that select in an automatic fashion the best card.

Hardware Device

    The hardware device could be useful for mobile computers with only one SIM card slot. The device consist of a PCMCIA with at least two slots and an unpluggable antenna (see figure 1).

The card and its application software will be integrated seamlessly and effortlessly into IBM notebook and other devices with PCMCIA slot (palm, car, appliance, etc.).

Software application

    The software should be able to activate and deactivate the SIM cards. It should allow to set the price profile of each GSM/GPRS cards and it selects the
