Method to generate natural Japanese translation when syntactic analysis fails

Main point of this invention Disclosed is an English to Japanese machine translation system which generates natural Japanese translation sentences by modifying the sentence ends of partial translations at syntactic analysis failure.

Background of the invention When syntactic analysis fails in English to Japanese machine translation, partial translations of sentence portions analyzed correctly are connected and generated as a translation result. However, since the relation between partial translations was not necessarily considered, the translation sentence sometimes includes grammatical errors and is not a natural sentence in many cases. For example, a machine translation system generates the following result.

Detailed description of the invention The English to Japanese machine translation connects partial translations of sentence portions analyzed correctly and generates a translation result, when syntactic analysis of an input English sentence fails. At that time, partial translations are not connected simply, but the following processings of three items are performed and a natural Japanese translation sentence is generated.
