Abstract

The subject compositions contain a) ketoxime-ester selected from the compounds shown in formula (I), in particular 1-[9-Ethyl-6-(2-methyl-benzoyl)-9.H.-carbazol-3-yl]-ethanone-O-acetyl-oxime; b) one or more radically polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated compound(s), c) colorant(s), and d) a binder resin. Said compositions are used in the manufacturing of color filters (CF). The compositions comprising 1-[9-Ethyl-6-(2-methyl-benzoyl)-9.H.-carbazol-3-yl]-ethanone-O-acetyl-oxime and similar ketoxime esters can be employed for producing the red, green and blue colored coatings and a black matrix of a CF to be used to manufacture flat panel displays such as liquid crystal display, plasma display panel and electroluminescence display, and image sensors such as CCD (Charge Coupled Device) and CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) sensors for scanner, digital camera and video camera.

This article relates to photosensitive compositions comprising a ketoxime-ester as radical generating compound upon irradiation to UV and /or visible radiation for manufacturing of color filters. The subject compositions contain a) ketoxime-ester selected from the compounds shown in formula (I), b) one or more radically polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated compound(s), c) colorant(s), and d) a binder resin.

Color filters are usually employed in the manufacturing of flat panel displays such as liquid crystal display, plasma display panel and electroluminescence display, and image sensors such as CCD (Charge Coupled Device) and CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) sensors for scanner, digital camera and video camera. The color filters are usually prepared by forming red, green and blue pixels and a black matrix on a glass substrate. In these processes photocurable compositions can be employed. A particularly preferred method of use comprises, coating of the substrate with the photosensitive resin composition of the present disclosure containing the coloring matters, dyes or pigments of red, green and blue colors and black, drying of the coating with a short heat treatment, patternwise exposure of the coating to actinic radiation and subsequent development of the exposed coating in an aqueous alkaline developer solution and optionally a heat treatment. Thus, by subsequently applying red, green and blue colored coatings and a black matrix, in any desired order, on top of each other with this process a color filter layer with red, green and blue color pixels and black matrix can be produced.

Strong demands for photosensitive compositions with higher performance for manufacturing of color filters are still existing to improve productivity and to improve the performance of final devices. The subject compositions exhibit high sensitivity, low oxygen inhibition, high resolution, high thermal stability and high reproducibility of desired pattern shape. Therefore, the compositions are highly suitable for manufacturing color filters.
