Lamp drivers are often provided around the lamp (transversal to the lamp axis) on a FR4 substrate. The Printed Circuit Board (=PCB)-driver has a round outside shape to fit in the lamp housing and a round hole in it to fit around the lamp. In most applications the lamp shines downwards, in all these applications the generated heat from the electronics goes up, but in that direction the PCB blocks airflow. To counteract this airflow-blocking effect, the lamp drivers are designed on substrates that are axially placed with a circular opening between the reflector and the lamp housing for as an air-entrance and an open top in the lamp housing. Thus natural airflow-cooling of the electronics is enabled.
