Database Test Data Generation

Disclosed is a system that populates test data in database tables for testing purposes. Such test data may be necessary for testing such things as testing query performance. Currently, there is not a GUI based method to populate database tables. The idea is to provide a GUI based program that will ask a user what database table they want to populate with test data. From there, the user will be asked how many test records they would like to populate. Based on the column type, the type of data to be populated will be appropriately chosen.

The system can be created using Java*. JDBC 2.0 offerings can be used to determine database column types. Namely, the meta data can be scrutinized to see column type, column size, etc. From there, appropriate data (characters, numbers, etc) can be randomly generated to be inserted into the database tables in question. The number of test data rows that the user wants to create can be specified in a Swing GUI.
