Add a code key to messages. Using this code key a debugger can determine the module flow leading to this

message.

Problem solved is speeding the process to debugging a problem. We remove the need to recreate problems

when the module flow is needed to resolve the problem.

Advantage achieved is being able to determine the module flow leading to the message from the code key.

For example:

Message ABC0001 "Message text " Code Key 00010002003004

User can determine the module flow leading to the message from the code key. Example: 0001 = Module A , 0002 =Module B etc.

I have not seen any messages with a code key indicating module flow in my IBM level 2 Career. Most Often additional steps need to be taken

to determine the module flow of when this message is issued especially when the same message can be issued from different modules.

This invention can be implemented in several ways.

Following is one method.

Method1: When a message is to be issued use the standard save area (For the case of OS/390 products) to determine the callers before a msg issued.

Module A is about to issue a MSG:

Use Save area-> Access caller Module ID-> Record Key -> Access Previous save area->Determine Module Key->Record key and continue process

until no more callers or maximum is reached.

User can set a maximum on how many modules can be included in the Code KEY.

For the case of other operating systems were a savearea may not be present...
