Abstract

Disclosed is an object format for exchange electronic resources over the Internet. It provides generic object format that encapsulates data, a part (software program), and metadata into an object. In a dynamic web contents creation system, system needs to explore data and part that are necessary to create a web page. To do this, metadata (data about data) helps exploring them and choosing appropriate one for a web page. By encapsulating data, a part, and metadata into an object, distribution and interoperability of electronic resources become more easily. To exchange electronic resources over firewalls, XML[1] format is used as external representation of the object. Metadata of the object format is machine-readable information written in RDF[2]. It enables applications such as dynamic web contents creation system to select appropriate part and data without human intervention. Metadata is given at the registration time of data and a part. It enables to categorize registering resources explicitly and to make association with other resources. The parts management system will create an envelope object based on metadata, and store it into a database. Selecting appropriate RDF schema [3] at the metadata registration, it enables to express interoperable metadata expression.
