Mail Server Storage Economizer working across User email Accounts

Disclosed is a software economizer used on email servers that snoops all of its user accounts looking for duplicate attachments. Once duplicates are found, the redundant attachments are be eliminated and replaced with a link to a single copy of the original attachment on the server.

To ensure attachments are definite matches between users on the server the attachment name, date, size and a CRC check is performed on the suspected matching attachment. CRC alone will yield a > 99.9% accuracy rate for a match for the attachment matching.

Attachment filenames are updated with CRC's at off peak server times. With the CRC's added to all attachments, the actual CRC is used as a reliable search key for finding duplicate attachments with the server accounts. Furthermore, certificate verification is used to ensure that the retained original attachment (for which all other attachments across client accounts have been deleted and replaced with links to the original attachment) is an uncompromised valid attachment.
