Background

        � � � � � Plastic materials are expensive and are an environmental hazard due to not being biodegradable. Plastic is the base material for conventional output tape reels. They are typically treated with an antistatic material. The internal design has a single spindle core that combines two flanges together. The reel is lightweight and does not have a protective covering on the outer wound taped units (see Figure 1). Without reuse, conventional reels comprise solid waste because the material is not biodegradable.

The output reel is coupled with a separate corrugated/laminated paper that covers the circumferential area of the symmetrically attached flanges, which protect the outer units during the vacuum sealing process.
