Disclosed is a pointing device which is attached to or integrated into the bezel of a visual display workstation in order to provide mouse-like functionality with a single hand for standing or seated operators.

The pointing device can be installed on a visual display of any technology, but the display will most likely will be a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) - as depicted in the Figure - or a Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) display. The attached pointing device will function whether or not the display itself is enabled as a touchscreen.

The pointing device is located on approximately the same plane as the viewing surface of the visual display. When integrated into the display bezel, the pointing device is secured from theft or loss. It does not contribute significant additional space to the surface of a visual display.

Manipulated by thumb or finger, the pointing device provides the ability to access and run graphical user interface (GUI) applications on a visual display in a manner similar to that typically done with a mouse, trackball, or other desktop pointing device or with a finger on a touchscreen display.

The pointing device can be used by a standing or seated operator, depending upon the relative positioning of the display workstation and its user. The pointing device can be operated with one hand.
