Abstract

Disclosed is the concept of a Surface-mount Transparent Patch Antenna that gets a space saving on a mobile phone and/or a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) with RF receiver and/or transmitter. When the antenna is mounted just on the display surface of such a mobile apparatus, the dedicated space for a antenna would be eliminated. Most typical use of the antenna is for a PDA having GPS receiver inside of it.

Surface-mount Transparent Patch Antenna

Disclosed is the concept of a Surface-mount Transparent Patch Antenna that
gets a space saving on a mobile phone and/or a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant)
with RF receiver and/or transmitter. When the antenna is mounted just on the
display surface of such a mobile apparatus, the dedicated space for a antenna
would be eliminated. Most typical use of the antenna is for a PDA having GPS
receiver inside of it.

In the figure all the materials are transparent,
(1) are very low resistive film working as Radiator
on the top, (2) is dielectric body such as glass
with high dielectric constant, (3) is the earth
plate and (4) is RF power feeding terminal. RF power
can be transmitted/received at the (4) because (1)
and (4) are electro-magnetically coupled each other.
