AC erase before write operation in Low Temperature

Disclosed is the method of preventing read hard error and
improving the read
performance at low temperature.

In the application of Hard Disk Drive (HDD), the possibility of
squeeze and and the
poor over write performance is the trade-off.

1.Symptom
When dada is overwritten at low temperature, the previous
high-temperature-written
data is not erased completely, which becomes noise and may
fall into deep retry step
or may cause read hard error eventually.

2. How to prevent
When a write command is cast at low temperature, do AC erase
first for the target
data sector to erase the previous data. AC erase can make the
disk magnetized
neither way, and can reduce the noise element of
low-temperature-written-data.

3. Trade-off
Current HDD manufacturing test have the over write screening.
By implementing
the disclosed method, this screening can be removed or the
criteria may be changed.

The manufacturing yield improvement can be expected. At low
temperature,
performance may be worsen by 2 times write (AC erase first and
write data next) .
