Updating answering machine messages via external devices

This invention is a software program in a PC based answering manchine that updates the answering machine message in a more informative manner by using a speech synthesizer to give the caller a better indication as to where the called person is at the time of the call as well as when they may return.

When the answering machine answers a call, it will scan the user's on-line calendar. If there is a calendar entry for the time of the call, then the answering machine will articulate what event the called person may be participating in (instead of just giving the canned message ) and give an indication of when the called person will be free based on their calendar entries.
