Disclosed is a precaution method for Head Disk Interference (HDI) of Hard Disk
Drive (HDD) by detecting the increase of Spindle driver current.

If the head cannot fly on the disk correctly, HDI
is happened. HDI causes Disk and Head damage and
finally read/write operation cannot be done. This
means user data is destroyed. In other words, user
data can be kept if the prediction of HDI is taken.

Spindle motor current (Imtr) is good to predict the
HDI, because Imtr is increased by the friction
increase between Head and Disk. Usually Spindle
motor current can be monitored by MPU. So HDI
condition can be detected while Imtr is monitored
promptly.

Following sequence is one of example to achieve
this function.
1. Monitor the Imtr when an read or write error is
happened.
2. Check the logging value and Warn a HDI
precaution message to the PC if the logging value
shows higher than the criteria.
3. Save the Imtr value into Disk logging area for
the failure analysis purpose.
