Abstract

Disclosed is a process for e-mail messaging in which the content of the e-mail can be created dynamically using a message template and sent automatically based on database notification criteria. This process enables a database management product to do the following for e-mail messaging: Create messages using message templates for various purposes. For example, inform customers when a Service Level Agreement contract will be breached, when a change record is approved or when a problem is escalated.

Dynamic E-mail Messaging for Database Notification Process

   Disclosed is a process for e-mail messaging in which the content
of the e-mail can be created dynamically using a message template
and sent automatically based on database notification criteria.

This process enables a database management product to do the
following for e-mail messaging:

* Create messages using message templates for various
purposes.

For example, inform customers when a Service Level Agreement
contract will be breached, when a change record is approved
or when a problem is escalated.

* Allow flexible message content where the message information
can be constructed based on various types of records (e.g.,
problem,change, and activity records.

This implementation uses the REXX programming language in the
MVS environment to send e-mail using any Simple Mail Transfer
Protocol (SMTP) server via TCP/IP. There are two methods to
e-mail the message:

* Immediate Notification

* Queuing Notification

Customers can select one or both methods to run within their
database notification process.

Below is a message content template sample.
