Abstract

The code in this invention detects when a higher number processor is present and functioning, and if such a processor exists, the current processor turns off its own "boot processor" flag. This can be used in a system with two or more processors to avoid having to re-work hardware, whether during development or at the customer site. It is a software fix that can avoid the problem of having to send new hardware to customers, which saves time and money, since a flash update can be performed by the customer instead of requiring a maintainance person to perform the update.

A METHOD TO PREVENT MULTIPLE PROCESSORS FROM RUNNING AS THE BOOT PROCESSOR

The code in this invention detects when a higher number processor is present and functioning, and if such a processor exists, the current processor turns off its own "boot processor" flag. This can be used in a system with two or more processors to avoid having to re-work hardware, whether during development or at the customer site. It is a software fix that can avoid the problem of having to send new hardware to customers, which saves time and money, since a flash update can be performed by the customer instead of requiring a maintainance person to perform the update.

The invention allows a multi-processor system to boot instead of hanging when more than one processor is running as the boot processor.
