Disclosed is a system for efficient data transfer between a Web server and a Web browser on the Internet. This system dynamically compresses content only when high compression rate is expected for the data type of that content (e.g. text format data).

This system enables the following:

It reduces data transfer time for some kinds of contents without modification of an existing Web browser and an existing Web

server. It needs less computer resources than the method of compressing data regardless of its data type because it avoids

compression in case that high compression rate is not excepted (e.g. graphic data).

This system consists of a client adapter and a server adapter. The client adapter and the server adapter are attached to a Web browser and a Web server respectively.

The process flow of this system is as follows:

The Web browser sends a request command (A), and the client adapter receives it.

The client adapter sends a request command (B) containing the information of (A).

The server adapter receives the command (B) from the client adapter, and then restores the original request command (A)

and send (A) to the Web server. When the server adapter receives a response (C) from the Web server, it compresses the response data (C) into (D) if high compression rate is expected for the data type of (C). The client adapter uncompresses (D) and restores the original r...
