Abstract

This invention embodies the application of AWA Antiwetting agent on Glide heads. These heads are used for detecting defects on disk surfaces and used a Piezo electric tranducer to detect defects on Magnetic disk surfaces. However, due to the interaction of the glide head with the disk surface during loading and due to the head flying over the disk surface some amount of debris is transferred to the disk surface. Also, due to the fact that the glide head has a relatively higher surface energy compared to the disk surface contaminants tend to migrate to the head surface. Application of AWA to the head surface reduces the surface energy and makes the Glide head/disk interface more robust. Also reducing the effects of: 1) Head fly height changes 2) Changes in glide head sensitivity 3) A nearly more than 2 times increase in glide head life. 4) A more robust Head disk interface. 5) It leads to a reduction in glide head costs Head coating is done over the complete head with processess such as Dipping, Plasma processess, Vapor phase deposition. 1
