Abstract

Published is a feature to enable the Signal Adaptive Filter during data recovery regardless of whether thermal asperity is detected or not by the themal asperity circuit. Signal Adaptive Filter is a device that can suppress thermal asperity transient to allow error correction code to correct errors caused by thermal asperity. In normal error recovery routine, when thermal asperity is detected, the Signal Adaptive Filter is enabled during error recovery. But in some cases, when thermal asperity falls around the sync byte area and is not detected by thermal asperity circuit, the Signal Adaptive Filter will not be enabled during error recovery. This will result in an unrecovered data error. In order to avoid this unrecovered error, the Signal Adaptive Filter is always enabled during data recovery regardless of whether thermal asperity is detected or not by the thermal asperity circuit. 1
