Elastic material between spindle motor hub and disks

An motor hub design is disclosed that will be used spindle motor in HDD. If a spindle

motor cylindrical hub contacts with a disk inner surface, after thermal stress cycles,

disk shift might occur due to the thermal expansion mismatch. To avoid this, to have

circumferential air gap between a spindle motor cylindrical hub and a disk inner surface

is recommended. Though, it is not easy to build HDD with this circumferential gap by

manual assembling process.

To solve this, we propose the idea as follows.

To place an elastic material cylinder between a spindle motor hub and disks.

For example, we can insert a cylinder made of elastic material on a spindle motor hub

and then assemble disks and spacers.

By doing so, we can easily get a cylindrical elastic gap between a spindle motor hub and

disks even by manual process.

And even if there exists thermal expansion mismatch between a spindle motor hub and

disks under heat stressed condition, this elastic material can absorb the thermal

expansion delta.

So, we can reduce disk shift effect.

Alternative idea is to coat a cylindrical surface of spindle motor hub by elastic material.

Of course, to coat a disk inner surface by elastic material is also one of the alternative

options.

In both cases, we can get the same effect, too.
