    In the realm of address recognition
on parcels and flats it is essential to
test the OCR algorithm on a very large
sample of mail piece images.

    Digitized images for parcels are up
to 64MegaByte (MB) in size. Therefore it
is important to have a means to store
thousands of those images in real time and
replay them in real time too.

    A system for address recognition is
shown. The images are taken by a
high-speed camera and distributed to a
processor pool via the Image Transfer
Adapter (ITA).

    Now the following scheme is proposed
to capture and store the images in
real-time:

    An Image save station with two ITA is
connected to the image bus of the address
recognition system. The save station is a
standard PC with a powerful RAID system.
Images appearing on the image bus are not
only transferred into the image processors
but stored at the same time via the ITA
adapters on the save station. The first
image is stored in the first ITA, the next
in the second ITA. The first image is
transferred from the ITA to the disks of
the RAID system while the next image is
stored in the second ITA. Thus all the
images that appear on the image bus can be
stored in real time.

    To replay the stored images the
following scheme is used.
