Abstract

Disclosed is an actuator lock apparatus by using a local part of VCM magnet in L/UL Hard Disk Drive(HDD). Fig.1 shows an example of the L/UL (Load/Unload) Hard Disk Drive mechanism and Fig.2 shows the detail of Actuator(a) and VCM magnet(b). The actuator(1) stays at the Parking Area(3) on the Ramp(2) while power is off. The clockwize motion of Actuator(1) is restricted by Actuator Lock(7) which must have an additional magnet in itself because of L/UL requirement by Ramp Slope(4) and Latch(8).

   Disclosed is an actuator lock apparatus by using a local part of VCM magnet in
L/UL Hard Disk Drive(HDD).

Fig.1 shows an example of the L/UL (Load/Unload)
Hard Disk Drive mechanism and Fig.2 shows the
detail of
Actuator(a) and VCM magnet(b).

The actuator(1) stays at the Parking Area(3) on the
Ramp(2) while power is off.

The clockwize motion of Actuator(1) is restricted
by Actuator Lock(7) which must have an additional
magnet in itself because of L/UL requirement by
Ramp Slope(4) and Latch(8).

This disclosure proposes to use a local part of
Magnet(6) in VCM(5) as an actuator lock magnet.
The Actuator(1) has a Tip(9) made by magnetic
substance, and this Tip(9) composes a magnetic
circuit with
VCM Magnet. The shape of Magnet(6) or Tip(9) is
determined to realize the expected torque pattern
of
Actuator for the L/UL performance. Fig.2 (b) shows
an example of magnet shape.

Therefore, this apparatus enable to decrease the
additional magnet parts in the Actuator Lock(7) and
bring
down the total cost of HDD.

Furthermore, this apparatus enable to change the
peak position of torque by changing the Tip
location
because the magnet and stopper are separated.

The object of substitution is not limited to the
magnet for the Actuator lock, but magnet for power
off
retract is also applicable.
