A method is disclosed that manages an operation history by means of tree structure in information retrieval systems. Each node of the tree represents a state of the retrieval. A user can move the current state to any node and add a new query from the node.

An operation history management method for information retrieval systems

    A method is disclosed that manages an operation history by means of tree
structure in information retrieval systems. Each node of the tree represents a
state of the retrieval. A user can move the current state to any node and add a
new query from the node.

Fig. 1 shows the screen of the operation history. Each line indicates a state of
the search result. The state-0 is a initial state. The state-1 is a result of the
query-1. The state-2 is a result of the query-1 AND query-2, and the state-3 is a
result of the query-1 AND query-2 AND query-3. The asterisk indicates the current
state.

To search query-1 AND query-4, move the current state to state-1 (Fig. 2), and
add query-4 (Fig. 3). To search query-1AND query-2 AND query-5, move the current
state to state-2 (Fig. 4), and add query-5 (Fig. 5).
