Abstract

A flux guide is integrated with Tunnel Valve sensor. The flux guide layer is placed under the Tunnel Valve sensor. The structure is designed so that the flux guide portion directly below the sensor active area is pinned by an antiferromagnetic layer beneath the flux guide. The flux guide is separated from the antiferromagnet layer by a spacer layer (e.g. a thin layer of copper) for flux guide portions other than that lies directly below the sensor active area. The flux guide conducts flux from the air bearing surface to the front end of the free layer. The flux then conducts through the free layer since the flux guide below it is pinned. The free layer is separated from the flux guide by a spacer layer (e.g. a thin layer of copper).
