EMERGENCY WARNING USING PAGER TECHNOLOGY

Advances in pager technology have resulted in dramatic cost reductions. The cost of pagers and services

is now available for a couple of dollars a month. At these prices, there is a great market for these devices.

The devices are also small enough to be integrated into other electronics, such as phones and PDAs.

This invention is a new use of pager technology that allows authorities to pager/alert call individual homes

and areas to provide emergency information. An example can be a tornado. With new technology such

as Doppler radar, the weather service can isolate the path and location of a tornado within a couple of

blocks. However the home owners in that area, may not be watching TV, listening to radio, or may have

lost power.

This invention adds direct notification in addition to traditional broadcast mechanisms. In case of emergency

the weather service would send out a page to the nine-digit zip code this would result in a page/warning to each home in the "warning" area. The use of the nine-digit zip code allows for localization of information

and reduces complexity to isolating path of a storm to only the zip code.

The pager could be expanded to provide different types of messages for examples

27513-1234-XXX

27513 is zip, 1234 is four number extension, and XXX is a message. Message types could be for example

001- Watch 002- Warning 003- You're going to die 004- You should be dead

etc

The pager could be set to just rin...
