Abstract

In files with vacuum pumps to control power consumption, the fly height of the head can be adjusted down to give a stronger signal. This adjustment can be used as a data recovery method activated as part of DRP (data recovery procedure) if the signal is weak due to element wear or defects on the disk. As a proactive measure the pump control of FH can be used to actively burnish the defects (i.e. TAs) as they show-up in the file. 1
