populated concurrently on a memory card

Disclosed is a method and device for simplifying the upgrade service of
high-end computer system memory cards. The invention attempts to identify
memory DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Module) sockets that are concurrently accessed
by the computer system. It is through this identification that customers and
service personnel are able to determine which DIMM's to concurrently populate
(for memory upgrades) or depopulate (for service of a DIMM or set of DIMM's).
This invention is predicated on the fact that high-end computer systems often
require more than one DIMM to be populated concurrently.

Memory cards use more cryptic methods to identify memory DIMM sockets, such as
silkscreen reference designators and require a service manual in order to
identify concurrently populated DIMM sets. This increases service times and
decreases customer satisfaction. This disclosure positively impacts the
service time and thus the customer satisfaction by improving the process of
adding and replacing memory DIMM's. This invention has a color coding
technique to clearly identify groups that must be concurrently populated. It
consists of placing a color-coded mylar sheet at the end of the DIMM sockets,
with different colors next to adjacent DIMM's. The colors next to the DIMM
sockets allow the customer to clearly see which DIMM's need to be concurrently
