Abstract

Disclosed is a method to avoid miss-writing data to servo area in the previous head dummy write operation of theHDD which is produced from head disabling remodeling.. 1. Following head candidate table This table connects the dummy write head number to following head number/sector number candidates and is created refering the stagger servo physical positioning. For example, the first folliowing head number candidate is 7 for dummy write head 6.

A method of protecting the servo area overwrite in head disabling remodeling

Disclosed is a method to avoid miss-writing data to servo area
in the previous head
dummy write operation of theHDD which is produced from head
disabling remodeling..

1. Following head candidate table

This table connects the dummy write head number to following
head number/sector
number candidates and is created refering the stagger servo
physical positioning.

For example, the first folliowing head number candidate is 7
for dummy write head 6.

Head 0/sector 4 as the second candidate can be used as
following head if head 7 is
not available by the head disabling remodeling.

U se head 0 if head 7 is not available

1st candidate 2nd candidate 3rd candidate nth candidate

2. Dummy write head table

This table is created by MFG tester refering "following head
candidate table" and
is stored as a part of microcode. HDD use this table when
dummy writing.
