    This describes the edge seal process to protect driver pads on the surface of TFT from being
physically and chemically damaged, caused by abrasives during mechanically polishing process of
LCD cell.

          This invented process is described in fig 1. In this process, edge seal of such as
resin material is applied just before mechanical polishing as shown in fig 2. More effective way
to apply seal at edge
between color filter and TFT is to have edge chamfering for gaining more contact area as
shown in fig.3

          After mechanical polishing, all edge seal is removed.
Advantages of this process comparing to the idea of TDB(JP8-1998-0504) are : (1) additional
space is not required at outside of cell for having protect seal, (2) cell with liquid crystal
injected can be
thinned.
