Abstract

Disclosed is a method to significantly improve the performance and user interface of native Lotus Notes Views rendered to a web browser (a.k.a. Domino Views). Domino Views rendered to the Internet have a problematic user interface. For very large Domino Views (e.g. 250,000 documents) there is also a significant performance issue with the time it takes a view to be rendered to the browser. For large document collections View rendering times can be in the range of 60-90 seconds.

The solution to these problems involves several parts.

Greatly improved load times for Domino Views Improved user interface that includes;

An intuitive drill-down interface

Breadcrumb links that allow users to quickly return to previous pages

"Jump-to" function (the user enters one or more characters, and the user

immediately jumps to the part of the view containing matching characters)

The significantly improved view load times were achieved using a technique referred to as "Tunneling Views".
