Field of the invention:

The present invention broadly relates to the Internet and, in
particular, to computer software for dynamic generation of HTML
pages.

Problem solved:

    The Olympic Intranet (INFO) was specified to contain and to
provide access to huge volumes of information with very short
response times (i.e., less than 2 seconds for the 90% of
requests). In the exemplary case of the results data, the
information was contained and delivered on Reports (e.g., start
lists, results lists, classifications, etc, ...). In this
environment, even when the number of Reports to generate was very
large, it was fixed (i.e., the different kind of reports to
generate was known in advance).

    As a result of the analysis, on dynamic real-time
environments like this example of the "Sydney Olympic Games
2000", it was identified the need for a new method for enabling a
user who wants to access to updated information to get it without
needing to wait for the report generation when it was requested.

Objectives of the Invention

    The main purpose of the invention has been therefore to
minimize response times when doing queries for updated HTML pages
and reports on the Web on real-time information environments.

Standard strategies on the prior art do not solved those
requirements.

Advantages of the Invention

    The main advantage of the invention is the reduction on the
delay and access time to updated information. The method and the
system of the invention can be applied to similar huge, complex,
dynamic, real-time Web environments.

Description of the Invention

    The Results Subsystem of INFO was designed to Pregenerate
the main part of reports as soon as the information necessary to
build them was produced. Pregenerated reports are stored on the
HTML Pages Cache (see its description in the reference HTML Cache
Management on the Olympics Intranet). Then, a user who wants to
access to this information does not need to wait for the report
generation...
