Abstract

Online maintenance of scores using pervasive computation devices in conjunction with electronic communication mechanisms to a server Disclosed is a system and method for a Web based electronic scorekeeper of games. The process of scorekeeping in a friendly game of golf or bridge etc. can be a tedious chore and tends to take the focus away from the game at hand. However, score keeping forms an important part of the games in question. Currently people typically use pen and paper to keep track of scores. The rapid development of pervasive computing mechanisms and server based communication structures offers intriguing possibilities in various facets of our lives. In this disclosure, we focus on the mechanism for online score keeping in games like golf, bridge etc. using electronic communication technologies. The main elements of our disclosed system are the following:

Disclosed is a system and method for a Web based electronic scorekeeper of games. In this disclosure, we focus on themechanism for online score keeping in games like golf, bridge etc. using electronic communication technologies.

The main elements of our disclosed system are the following:

Score keeping server: the central element that keeps track of scores. It is initialized at the beginning of the game (for each participant) in a manner relevant to the game at hand. The actual scorekeeping is performed through update mechanisms (which is specific to the game being scored) that is invoked by the user client (some form of a pervasive computing client). The actual on-field events trigger the corresponding updates to be issued to the server. The server accesses and modifies the state of the score database to reflect the new happening. This is the interactive part of score maintenance, achi...
