Abstract

Disclosed is a magnetic stabilization structure for the GMR head. The structure provides boundary exchange pinning of the free layer by a BCC structure antiferromagnet (e.g., CrMnPt). On top of this antiferromagnet a thin layer high coercivity ferromagnetic thin film (e.g., CoPtCr) is deposited. CrMnPt also acts as the seed layer to give high Hc to CoPtCr. The boundary of the free layer is pinned for stabilization as well as CoPtCr provides magnetostatic bias to the free layer. 1
