Abstract

In the field of semiconductor module test,pogo pins are frequently used to make temporary electrical contact between a module and a test board. a sub-assembly,referred to as an interposer,consists of plastic plates (dies) which house the pogo pins. the pogo pins form an array that corresponds to the array of contact pads on the module to be tested. the interposers can have between 25 and 2000 pogo pins which are manually inserted into the dies. this rather long and tedious proccess is addressed in the invention disclosure publication. the publication consists of a tool designed to allow the user to easily pick up the pogo pins and insert them into an interposer. The tool has a tube that uses vacuum to draw pogo pins into the barrel thus providing a reservoir of pins that are available to be loaded. A plastic sleeve assembly is slid over the tube which both holds the pogo's in the barrel and provides a release mechanism to allow a single pogo pin to be released. The design may also be attached to an x-y-z mechanism to automate the process which will further cut down on the load time and further reducing the cost. 1
