Abstract

Disclosed is the use of PtPdMn exchange pinning material for the application of exchange tab stabilization . The pinned layer of the GMR head is pinned by, e.g., PtMn material with high blocking temperature whereas the exchange tab for the free layer magnetic stabilization uses PtPdMn. Addition of 10 to 20% Pt in PdMn improves exchange coupling while it allows PtPdMn to be set at lower temperature (close to 200C) in the longitudinal direction for free layer stabilization without harming the orientation of the pinned layer which is set 90 degrees relative to the PtPdMn setting. 1
