Abstract

We disclose the use of antiparallel coupled yoke layers for the Tunnel Valve head. The yoke layers are laminations of ferromagnetic films (CoFeNi, NiFe, CoFe) and nonmagnetic films like (Ru, Cu). For thin nonmagnetic (about 10 A) films, the ferromagnetic layers are antiparallel coupled. This antiparallel coupling provides flux closure and improves magnetic stability of the yoke structure under external field excitation. This is in-particular useful for Tunnel Valve heads where reliability consideration may require the Tunnel structure to be constructed in yoke form. 1
