Abstract

This is part of a system level implementation of the Potential Matching AE disclosure. The idea here is to add a trace to the interconnects be they TSAs, ILSs, Discrete Wires, or any Hybrids. This fifth wire (the first four are the two read and two write lines) will carry the potential matching voltage from an AE, equipped with a potential matching circuitry, to the head and to the rotating spindle motor. The objective is to eliminate common mode potential differences between closely spaced elements to eliminate electrostatic discharge events from occurring to prevent catastrophic drive failures. The invention solves the problem by eliminating potential differences among closely spaced elements in magnetic disk drives by creating a conduit for carrying the "neutralizing" matching voltages to the MR shields and media.
