eBook with Suspense Timing

Disclosed is a method in which music will be played at appropriate times when a reader is navigating himself through an electronic book.

Disclosed is a mechanism in which the eBook reader will be provided the necessary background music to accompany the pages or passages that are being read in an attempt to mimic the movie atmosphere.

We disclose adding background music such that is played at the appropriate times . This is done through timing the user's reading habits. For example, if the eBook has a 30-second music track to play then the eBook will attempt to determine when to play the track by backing up 30 seconds of reading time from the crescendo point. Another possibility would be to have the eBook have predefined sections that have accompanying clips. These sections could be defined as sentences, paragraphs, and/or pages in which music will be played. The book will then determine how long it might take the reader to read that section. The music clip can then be stretched or shortened to fit the section. A third possibility would be to have the Ebook render the pages differently to provide maximum effect. Hence the reader sees less and less on a page until the crescendo is reached.
