Abstract

Disclosed is a system for managing time and position-dependent data stored in mobile devices. Data items stored in mobile devices become invalid while time goes by and mobile users change their positons. To maintain the data items up-to-date, the mobile devices must discard old data and load new data from data servers. This system minimizes the number size of messages exchanged between mobile devices and data servers. The system consists of mobile devices and data servers. A mobile device sends to a data server messages equipped with its position and the current time. The data server receives the messages, separates times and positions from the messages, and stores them in the time manager and position manager respectively. The invalid data selector compares the time in the time manager with the valid time for each data item stored in the valid time manager. It selects data items to be removed from the mobile device, and stores the information of the expired data items in the removal data manager. The position-dependent data selector computes data items to be added and those to be removed using the previous position stored in the position memory and the current position stored in the position manager. It stores the information of the differential data items in the additional data manager and the removal data manager. The data server composes update messages from the information in the additional data manager and the removal data manager. The mobile devices receives the messages and updates its data using the information in the messages. Request Receiver Request Separator
