Abstract

This idea incorporates protective posts on the VCM lower pole piece. These posts prevent magnetic contamination due to mishandling in the HDD line. Magnet breakage in a HDD cleanroom will have serious impacts, sometimes resulting in closing down of the cleanroom itself. In a dual magnet type VCM, the upper and lower poles are received assembled and merged together with the VCM coil at assembly. This requires difficult tooling and longer operation time resulting in higher manufacturing costs. In this invented design, protection posts exist on the lower pole piece, therefore, allowing a top-down assembly with the two poles separated with little risk. This invention achieves the advantage of low cost manufacturing without the risk of magnet breakage in a mishandling event. The posts are bent on the lower pole piece higher than the surface of the magnet. This design prevents the magnet from being exposed to collision to hard surfaces. Without posts, in an event of mishandling or dropping the part, the magnet surface is highly probable to hit a metallic surface, which is often used inside a cleanroom.
