Industrial Printer Console Navigation Mechanism

Disclosed is an application which allows industrial printer consoles operators with

varying degrees of technical skills to intuitively interact with the printer running in duplex

or simplex modes. Additionally, the console design is suitable for touchscreens and

future functional expansion.

In this typical embodiment, the navigation screen has five main areas (see figure below). These are the (1) primary navigation bar (2) secondary navigation bar (3) tertiary navigation popup bar (4) print mode indicator/control and (5) main screen area.

The primary navigation bar is located at the top of the screen. This is a global bar that is always visible. It is divided into four sections: Frequent tasks, Forms, Maintenance, and Printer definition. When any of these buttons are clicked the main screen area is replaced by the secondary navigation area and a large content area. A highlight shows the button selected. The button highlight signals to the user their location in the menu structure. The first item listed on the secondary navigation area is displayed in the large content area by default. Hence the high frequency functions are located at the top of the secondary menu structure to make them accessible with just one button press.
