Direct Manipulation of Printer Objects on Touchscreen Console

Disclosed is an application that allows operators to interact with an industrial printer

using a touchscreen in a natural, intuitive fashion. The printer is represented on the

screen as a graphical object and the operator receives information about individual

sub-systems just by touching an object.

In a typical embodiment operators interact with the console through a touchscreen. The main printer subsystems ( two print engines, unwinder, flipper, post-processor) are displayed on the front panel (Figure 1):

When the operator clicks an object (e.g. the post-processor) they get a status window with detailed information about that object:

These fields can be either read-only or writable to allow the operator to make quick adjustments using this direct manipulation technique.
