Abstract

Disclosed is a device for using PCMCIA memory card in the Hard Disk Drive form factor instead of mechanical Hard Disk drive. It makes easy to design and to enhance high capacity drive than other storage system. The PCMCIA memory card which including IDE interface can use for storage device instead of IDE Hard Disk Drive. Fig.1 is for example, PCMCIA memory card is attaching for storage device on the 2.5" HDD form factor. This device applies to 3.5" HDD form factor as well as 2.5". The other hands, IDE interface has Master/Slave function, so this device can consist two PCMCIA memory cards as master and slave. It means to make double storage capacity in a HDD form factor. 2.5” (or 3.5”) H D D form factor

Almost PCMCIA interface signals are compatible with IDE interface signals. Fig.2 shows pin connection between IDE interface and PCMCIA interface. So, it does not need logic devices on the IDE/PCMCIA conversion board in case of one PCMCIA memory card. In case of two PCMCIA memory cards, it needs only one inverter on the conversion board for master/slave control.
