Abstract

Network Management and Analysis Solution through Web Disclosed is a system that works together with Tivoli Netview*, although its concept could be extended to other network management tools. After an initial customization by a network management specialist, this system is capable of analyzing common network problems and showing its possible causes and suggested solution procedures in a user-friendly automatic report which can be accessed through the use of web browsers. The implementation of this system has as its first step the execution of a brief analysis of the characteristics of the target network and the selection of any variables worth of monitoring, along with their thresholds, possible causes and suggested solution procedures. These variables are selected from those available at the MIB's (Management Information Base) of routers, switches and any other manageable devices present at this network. Expressions such as "bandwidth utilization" can be also selected. The second step of this implementation consists of configuring Tivoli Netview* to periodically collect all variables and expressions selected on the first step and store them in a relational database.
