Warming up Spindle Motor at Freezing Temperature

Disclosed is a method for Warming up Spindle Motor at Freezing Temperature in
a Hard Disk Drive(HDD).

Now, CAR-NAVIGATION system group require that HDD must work regularly under
condition between 80degC to -20degC"

Spindle motor of Hard Disk Drive is difficult to rotate due to
hardly-stickiness of oil at -20degC condition.

Therefore Hard Disk Drive cannot make spindle rotate under freezing
temperature.

Our idea can solve this problem.

Usually, Spindle is rotated by running current in order to Spindle's each
line(U,V,W).

The difficulty of start up spindle rotation is caused by hardly-stickness of
oil in spindle motor.

Our idea is following.
"Oil temperature of Spindle can be raised by running of the maximum current
only one line(U or V or W) when StartUp sequence"

The conditions for adaptation in this mode may be supervising the temperature
sensor carried in Hard Disk Drive, and may perform it in the stage included in
Error Recovery Procedure of SpinUp.

The data of the temperature rise when using this mode for below under room
temperature by reference is Shown in the following Fig-1
