Web Composer Tool

  Disclosed is a web content management tool (Web Composer Tool) that enables corporate intranet and internet website owners / administrators to create and maintain web pages without technical knowledge and corporate design standards, while managing a consistent look and feel throughout their sites.

The user creates web pages by selecting standard layouts and visual components stored in a control library. The tool handles the file management by uploading HTML source code and other data files to the development server where source control is in place. Once the user previews, validates and approves the web pages on the staging server, the approved code will be replicated to the production server. The tool is developed using Java technology and is web-based. Tomcat is used as the small web server and a standard web browser is the front end. Graphic user interface and business logic are implemented by Java servlet. In addition, some third party Java packages are embedded.

The first fundamental concept for the tool is to separate content data from its presentation. The content data is stored in an XML file and HTML tags are stored in an XSL file. HTML code is generated from the XML and XSL files. This is done via XSLT processor. The second fundamental concept is enabling layouts and components to be used to create or maintain a web page.
