Abstract

This publication describes an idea for Common Error Handling WebServices for all resources in participating in a Grid environment. These resources maybe hardware or software resources. A grid of resources refers to a set of resources, possibly computers, applications, storage units which virtually interact together as one composite unit. Design is in progress to define an Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA) to define the common elements of services needed to be operating on each ‘resource’ on the grid.

Common Error Handling WebServices for the Grid Architecture

This publication describes an idea for Common Error Handling
WebServices for all resources in participating in a Grid
environment. These resources maybe hardware or software resources.

A grid of resources refers to a set of resources, possibly computers, applications, storage units which virtually interact together as one composite unit. Design is in progress to define an Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA) to define the common elements of services needed to be operating on each 'resource' on the grid.

This invention extends this 'virtual computer' paradigm by defining a common logging structure for the grid which is common for all resources including hardware and software. Not only should there be a common error handling programming interface, to flag errors in a common format by ALL resources on the grid.

This could be implemented as a generic error handling webservice, which is part of the common set of services mandated for each resource within the grid by the OGSA specification. Any other webservice wanting to report errors can use the error handling webservice.
