Abstract

Disclosed is a device of "dummy head" of Hard Disk Drive (HDD) as windbreaker to prevent flutter problem of head suspension. Dummy head is a counter weight part substituted for a functional actual head and suspension unit in actuator of HDD. Appropriately designed dummy head can stabilize air flow around neighbor head suspension and improve performance of HDD. In HDD production, rotational speed of disk trends toward higher, and disturbance by windage for HDD performance appears. Flutter vibration of heads located between disks is worse than that of other heads. (See Fig-1 and Fig-2.) Fig-3 is an image of HDD actator with dummy head. In this case the actuator has 2 actual heads (Fig-4(a)) and 2 dummy heads, and 1 actual head neighbors on a dummy head. Dummy head is normally designed to be shorter than actual head suspension (Fig-4(b)) to prevent interference with neighbor head suspension.
