Abstract

As a user authentication system for WEB system, we often use an authentication system that user inputs user-id and password. Although it's easy to input user-id and password when a client device is PC, it's difficult in case of SetTopBox (henceforth referred to as STB) for home use because STB usually doesn't have a keyboard and home users are unfamiliar with operating a keyboard. So, authentication system of fewer user operation is expected. This invention enables users to log on to a system without inputting user-id and password only by a user registrating at once.

authenticating with user-id and password without inputting user-id and password

Disclosed is an auhenticating with user-id and password without inputting user-id and password. This invention enables users to log on to a system without inputting user-id and password only by a user registrating at once.

This invention consists of registration function and logon screen generation function greatly. Authentication function itself is using WebSphere(*) Everyplace Server, and it can generate a logon screen dynamically at a logon screen generation server.

First, a user accesses the site for registration and is authenticated with user-id and password before registration process. Registration function generates a unique random ID(henceforth referred to as automatic authentication ID) and stores it in an authenticated user's information. In the response to a user, automatic authentication ID is stored in Cookie, and it returns to a client with a screen as a result of registration processing. By this registration function , the automatic authentication ID is stored in a user information DB by the side of a server, and the Cookie information is stored by the side of a browser. This means that logon screen generation function can know which user send a HTTPRequest by this Cookie.

When user accesses the site whose URL requires authentication, authentication function call logon screen generation function. Logon screen generation function specify the user-id by the automatic auth...
