Client Data Retrieval Tool to Download Related Data from DB2 to Notes

The Client Data Retrieval (CDR) tool retrieves data related to one object into one Notes database from many DB2 tables.

A product called NotesPump can be used to 'pump' data from Notes to DB2. The Notes data may be 'normalized' as it is pumped, which means one Notes document may actually be pumped to several DB2 tables. The problem is that users from other copies (partitions) of the Notes database are not able to see the data that had been pumped from other Notes partitions in the Notes format that they were used to using.

There are other ways that the users could review the data, but they have disadvantages.

The clients could logon to DB2 to view the data. The problem is that the data is normalized across many many tables when it gets to DB2 and it would be very difficult for the client to easily understand it without complicated queries and assistance from someone familiar with the data model. In contrast, the CDR tool retrieves the data into Notes so the client can see the data in the format they are trained to use.

The clients could access each other's Notes databases to review the data. There are several problems with this approach. The clients would need authority to all the Notes databases. They would need to have one icon on their desktop for each Notes database, and they would only be able to search one Notes database at a time. In contrast, the CDR tool allows them to search all the DB2 data with data from all the Notes partitions with one search query.

NotesPump could be configured to pump the...
